THR.com: NBC is pulling the plug on J.J. Abrams' spy series Undercovers. The network is declining to pick up a full season of the show.
Undercovers will air three more episodes in the coming weeks. The addition three episodes in the can "will likely" air at some point, but there's no date set.

Undercovers broke the mold by casting two black leads as the show's main characters. But middling reviews and declining ratings made the show increasingly destined for the chopping block.

Harry Lennix is to make a guest appearance in a forthcoming episode of NBC spy drama Undercovers. TV Squad reports that the former Dollhouse star will play Gary Bloom, the estranged older brother of Steven Bloom (Boris Kodjoe).

Kodjoe admitted that he was surprised by the character's introduction, explaining: "I was told that I have a brother about a week before I shot with him, so that came out of nowhere! I read it in the script right before I shoot. It's the funniest thing, but it keeps it fresh that way."

The star also revealed that Steven and Gary will have "a lot of issues to work out".

Alan Dale has signed on for a recurring role on NBC's Undercovers, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.


The 63-year-old actor will play James Kelvin, the boss of Shaw & the man responsible for bringing Steven and Samantha Bloom back to the CIA. Although the couple were told they were recruited to rescue Leo Nash, the real reason involves elements from the Blooms' past in which Kelvin is interested.

He will make his first appearance in Episode 11, but viewers will begin hearing his voice in episode 8.

Good news, Undercovers fans - According to Deadline.com, Undercovers has received an additional episode order from NBC for "about 6 episodes".

Although NBC didn't give Undercovers the full back-9 order, we should be happy with 6 additional episodes for now, while NBC makes their next decision.

EW's Ausiello takes a look at a possible "Undercovers" back-nine episodes order and spoils upcoming storylines...

Question: You haven’t said a word about Undercovers! Breaks my heart, it does. Will they be getting the back 9 treatment or not? —James

Ausiello: Back nine seems like an iffy proposition right now given the show’s low ratings. Personally, I hope it rebounds. I find the two leads immensely appealing. I’m also excited to hear that the show will be sprinkling in a little mythology in the coming weeks. “We’re building to the reveal of why these two were really called back to the agency,” explains exec producer Josh Reims. “And along the way, we get hints about some secret CIA programs, people who aren’t who they say they are, and some facts about Samantha and Steven’s history that turn out not to be exactly what they thought.”
